Know When Your Colony Needs a New Queen

Learn how to recognize the signs of a failing or queenless colony, understand brood patterns and colony temperament, and determine when requeening is the right solution for your bees.

Master the Requeening Process

Discover how pheromones influence queen acceptance, prepare the colony properly, remove the old queen, position the queen cage correctly, and create the conditions that give your new queen the highest chance of success.

Confirm Success with Confidence

Learn what to expect after introducing a queen, how to recognize the signs of successful acceptance, and what steps to take if the colony rejects the new queen. You'll know how to respond confidently no matter the outcome.

About the course

Requeening is much more than placing a new queen inside a hive. Successful introductions depend on understanding the colony's behavior, preparing the hive correctly, working with pheromones, and giving the bees time to accept their new queen. When these steps are followed in the proper sequence, you greatly improve the chances of a successful introduction.   In this course, you'll learn how to recognize when a colony needs a new queen, understand why pheromones influence acceptance, prepare the colony, locate and remove the old queen, introduce the new queen cage, monitor the waiting period, confirm a successful requeening, and know exactly what to do if things don't go as planned. Each lesson builds on the last, giving you a complete understanding of the entire requeening process from start to finish.   Whether you're introducing your first queen or refining your beekeeping skills, you'll finish this course with the knowledge and confidence to make one of the most important management decisions in the apiary.
